Course Description:


The Essentials of Crisis Management is the overview course in the Crisis Management and Communication discipline. This course lays the groundwork and provides the foundation for becoming certified in Crisis Management and Communication.

It is important that any enterprise have an understanding of Crisis Management since it poses the greatest threat to an organization’s survival. That can only be achieved by adopting a management philosophy that includes prevention of potential crises, mitigation of those that do occur, and recovery and restoration in the wake of a crisis.

During a crisis event, well meaning employees often do not know how best to use resources to effectively mitigate the often profound effects of the event. Too often employees receive “on the job training” on how to handle crisis situations. The Essentials of Crisis Management is a “nuts and bolts” course that attendees can immediately apply to their work settings.

Inaddition, the course will provide the foundation for subsequent studies and your development as a trained and certified crisis manager. Included in this course is the textbook, “Crisis Management: Essentials of Crisis Management” written by James R. Helton, M.S., M.Div., M.P.H., Psy.D.

Audience:


The audience for this course is those new to the crisis management and business
continuity disciplines or for senior management who need to understand the basics for the development a crisis management competency. Attendees will learn the basics of crisis management upon which they can build specific competencies with later courses.

Delivery Structure:

Throughout the course there are a variety of small group exercises and a halfday is devoted to a simulation.
