Course Description:


Cutting edge communication skills, when combined with personal congruence, are the foundation of strong leadership, superior negotiating, and powerful conflict resolution skills.

This 2-day course teaches participants to plan, act, and communicate more effectively. Attendees will identify the essential skills for negotiating and resolving conflicts with integrity. In addition, the course will focus on personal self awareness as well as discover the impact of non-verbal communication during conflicts.

We are always communicating. You either do it well or you do not, but no one can ever simply stop communicating. Influencing with Integrity focuses on training individuals from all sectors how to enhance and strengthen their communication techniques whether working in front line law enforcement, as a crisis team leader, a media spokesperson or a public speaker.

Understanding the mental elements of crisis is crucial to adapting and responding
with resiliency, when faced with a critical incident, trauma or other stressful event.

The scenarios used for class discussion and exercises encompass both personal
and professional negotiation techniques. Fundamentally, it is designed to teach participants how to work the conflict resolution model when under time constraints and pressure.

Influence is a natural result of communication. Influencing with integrity is a skill that can be developed or deepened with this training.

Audience

The audience for this course includes front line enforcement personnel, fire
and EMS, as well as professional communicators such as crisis team leaders,
media spokespersons, public speakers, lawyers, counselors, or any individuals
who require advanced communication skills with which to persuade
or influence others. Anyone working with customer service style enterprises
has also found this to be a useful and valuable training opportunity.

Certification and Accreditation

Influencing with Integrity is an ICOR certificate program that is part of the Crisis Management & Communications as well as Emergency Management ICOR University Disciplines. Individuals completing the course in its entirety can earn certificates in Conflict Resolution and in Basic Negotiations. Influence with Integrity is a 32 hour certification course which is considered an equivalent to the mandatory Human Relations component for law enforcement and security officers in the Province of Alberta, Canada. It is currently also sanctioned by the Solicitor General Department of the Province of Alberta.

Course Outline:

Day 1: Personality styles, learning style,

non verbal communication
Understanding Conflict - your own reactions
and responding to theirs. Defensive Strategies
and Difficult People. Understanding Anger

Day 2: Communicating with Intention - performance

based outcomes. Basic Negotiation Model

Course Objectives:

• Achieve rapid rapport with anyone
• Develop the behaviours that earn the attention, acceptance and trust of others
• Explore different styles of communicating and how they impact our relationships
• Learn how to ask powerful questions without creating resistance
• Learn specific ways to make non-verbal behaviour add effectiveness to verbal communication
• Develop strategies for the when, where and how to resolve conflicts
• Expand understanding about collaborative conflict resolution strategies
• Develop a style of negotiating with integrity
• Become aware of your ‘anger hooks’ and how to avoid letting emotion rule the situation
• Learn to address difficult people as well as their dirty tricks
• Generate effective strategies for our own situations
• Consider conflict management in the workplace and community environment looking to prevention, problem solving and negotiation skills
• Learn how to use these techniques daily and get results!
